The world's first VRMMO (Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online) fantasy RPG—a game with a diverse array of races, numerous classes, and a variety of skills for broad gameplay—was called World Fantasy Online (WFO). A year after it went on sale, the game was finally receiving a long-awaited update.

During this update Yuna answered a questionnaire, limited to customers who have logged a high number of hours in-game, and based on her answers was transferred to a fantasy world by god. It is unclear if the game was created by this god or if they simply felt a member of the player base would be well suited for their world.

Known Questionnaire Questions[]

  • Do you enjoy World Fantasy Online more than reality?
  • Do you have anyone important to you in the real world?
  • Do you have a best friend in the real world?
  • Do you have anything important to you in the real world?
  • Do you believe in God?
  • Do you think the bear gear is cute?

Mechanics[]

  • Players spawn at their in-game house on log in
  • Fantasy games like this mostly rehashed the same tropes as light novels,
  • Monsters were supposed to disappear and drop items when they died. A wolf would leave meat and a pelt or something, or, if you were lucky, a mana gem.
  • You can pull up the status screens of NPCs
  • In WFO, player avatars all had the same outlines for their faces, but you could change their hair colors and hairstyles.
  • WFO had hand-to-hand battle events. They were open to all, without level, weapon, magic, or gear restrictions, and occasionally featured battles where the admins would change the settings to make the fighters have fixed defensive and offensive abilities.
  • The game had time attack modes in which you had a set time to clear a horde of monsters.
  • You can tame monsters and make them your companions.
  • The game had an item you could use to breathe underwater, and some players had a Mermaid skill for these things.

Yuna's playstyle[]

  • Solo
  • Sword user

Yuna's character[]

  • Her avatar had silver pigtails and was 10cm taller.

Events[]

Ocean Events[]

In the game, the kraken was an ocean event boss. Your standard big murder squid. It was weak against fire and lightning, but fire damage gets halved in water zones. Lightning was super effective, but remember the bit about oceans? You could really mess up your own party if you cast a lightning spell wrong surrounded by water. Ugh, I hated that boss—melee classes like mine were useless against it, so if you weren’t casting, you were flailing around with your weapon in vain.

Let’s Exterminate Cockroaches[]

When the event started up, it turned the game into a living hell. Yuna logged out the moment she saw ’em and still had nightmares for days. Imagine human-sized cockroaches scurrying around. The apex of terror. The event got cancelled right away and they distributed items to apologize.

There were some gamers who’d praised the staff for making them look surprisingly realistic, but you just can’t make things like that look real! It’s immoral! Irresponsible! And more importantly, it gave me goosebumps.
